Hello Parents and Friends of Outpost 64, I just have a couple of announcements for upcoming Summer 2016 Ranger Events:
1. First, our last regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 27th and will feature a “Bring a Friend Night.” Then on May 4th, we will be having our annual End of Year Awards Ceremony and Picnic. This will start at 5:30. Please feel free to invite family and friends to come out and celebrate what the Rangers have accomplished with all their hard work this year. There will be RSVP Cards sent home this week.
We do not meet on a regular weekly basis during the Summer, but we do have Ranger events. We always try and have at least one Royal Ranger event per month all twelve months of the year. Feel free to check the Ranger Calendar link on this web page a list of upcoming events, but following are a few.
2. April Merit Camp – Saturday, April 16th from 9 AM until 3 PM. The Discovery Rangers will be working on their Global Missions and Bible Merits. They will be studying the book of Judges with Ron Bish. The Ranger Kids will be working on the Buffalo Advancement and several other Merits. The boys will need to bring a bag lunch and water bottle for this event.
3. May Merit Camp – Saturday, May 21st from 8:30 – 3:30 PM. The Discovery Rangers will be traveling to Bliss, NY and the boys will be earning their fishing and Archery Merits and doing a Wildlife search hike as well. The Ranger Kids will be going on a nature hike that day and spending the day finishing their ELK Advancement.
The Discovery Rangers are free to bring their own fishing or Archery equipment if they choose to, but there will be poles, lures, bait, and archery equipment for them to use if they do not have them. Fathers are welcome to this event as well, and there is no need for a license as we will be on private land.
Anyone attending this Merit Camp should dress for the weather and bring an extra jacket because they will be spending most of the day outdoors. They should bring lunch and a water bottle to this event as well.
4. NY District Pow-Wow – August 11-14. This NY District-wide campout is the culminating event to end the Summer held each year at our Royal Ranger District Campground in Greene, NY. Details will be sent home with the boys, but mark the calendars because the boys will not want to miss it. Check out the promotional video here.
One important note on the Pow-Wow. Most ranger events are father and son events, but due the size of this campout, only Pre-Approved Ranger leaders are allowed on the campsite. A parent may come and visit the boys during approved visiting hours only. This is for the safety and security of every boy. Each adult on the campsite must go through a thorough background check and pre-certification process. If there are any questions about this, feel free to ask.
At this point, we do not have events planned for June or July, but we are working on something now. I will let you know as soon as those details are finalized.
Thank you, and I hope to see you all at the Awards Ceremony.
