first campout of the year!

Once again, it’s time to plan that first campout of the year! Outpost 292’s busiest Fall ever starts with the Western Section Camporee. The Camporee is s a weekend-long campout for Discovery Rangers (3rd grade) and older where the boys get to try out different skills, learn to work in a team, cook their own dinners (and wash thier own dishes), have a campfire and toast marshmellows. All in a positive Spirit filled atmosphere.

This year’s Camporee will take place on October 15th – 17th.  We will meet Friday evening at the campsite behind Creekside Assembly of God (2625 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst, NY) around 6 PM. I should be there by 5:30.

We should be ready to come home Sunday the 17th by 11 AM, but sometimes this does take a little longer. We require the boys to pack up the camp, so sometimes we are a bit longer.

If your boys cannot come for the entire weekend, there is a Saturday-only option. Click here for a direct link to the entire Camporee Packet and Permision Slip.

a word on clothing

We live in Western NY, so it could easily be colder weather, so please be sure to send a raincoat and a warm jacket along with waterproof boots just in case it gets bad. Camping is always fun in any weather, but getting wet or cold is the only thing I have found to take the fun out of it. Please send the appropriate clothing.

So after saying that – once again – it is Buffalo. That means the weather could get warm as well – so send some lighter clothes as well. The best way to prepare is to think lots of layers, a raincoat and plenty of socks.

I am looking forward to a great campout and will be sending an information packet home the first week of meetings.

Stay connected
